PM Jordan Fired

Jordan's King Abdullah really wants to reform the country's kingdom. Anyone whoprevents, the government is no exception, will face the consequences.

And yesterday, King Abdullah sacked Prime Minister (PM) Marouf al-Bakhit, aconservative former general, and pointed awn Khaswaneh, the International Court judges,to lead the new government.

According to government officials, government PM Marouf disbanded because failing tomeet the increasing demands for reform. Khasawneh is now being met''King,''the official said asking not to be named that.

Sources close to Khasawneh (61) said that judges who joined the International Court of Justice since 2000, it asked for assurance that he obtained the privilege as prime ministeras stipulated in the constitution.


Parliament is currently recess, but more than 60 members last week signed a letter to the King. The letter criticized the performance of Bakhit. But the document was not published.

Bakhit government took office last February after King Abdullah fired an unpopular prime minister after street protests inspired pro-reform in the Arab mass action. PM Bakhitcriticized for less inept handling of domestic issues, including preparation for municipal elections that plan would be held later this year.

In addition to appoint a new PM, King yesterday also chose Major General Feisal Shobakias intelligence chief. He replaces Raqqad Mohamad, who held that position since 2008.

Last August, the King held a meeting with various groups of Jordan anddescribes''tsunami''changes in key government posts in order to support the reform effort,obviously the people who attended the meeting.
